Mapping the Steps to Visual Excellence

st step is to choose a sufficient picture type. Some examples would be to use an Icon, Image, Diagram, Visual Metaphor, or a Map.

nd step is using retinal variables correctly such as: SIZE, ShaPE, Color, Texture, ANGLE, and P o s i t i o n.

rd step is respecting design principles by keeping Consistency, Repetition, Contrast, Alignment, and Proximity all working together so that the design is not only effective and orderly looking, but to maximize the differences for easier and quicker detection so the readers increase their memorization of the images and the messages behind them.

th step is to avoid pitfalls. Examples of pitfalls are: Oversimplification, Manipulation, Cliché, Misuse, and Overload, Ambiguity. Using too many symbols and other graphic forms can lead to misinterpretations of the images, but also putting too much information can overwhelm the image and decrease the influence it has on readers.

th and final step to achieving VISUAL EXCELLENCE is Innovating, making your image look Intriguing, having a level of Surprise, and Reframing your image.
